Night vision goggles have evolved over the past few decades and are labeled as generation one through four, with generation one being the oldest style and the lowest technology. That does not mean, however, that the generation-one goggles, which are also the cheapest night vision goggles, are not enough for your use.

If you are a hunter and only need to see for about 100 yards, then you will find that generation one is more than enough for you. Buying anything more expensive just might be a waste of your money. The same is also true if you are only using your goggles for fun. Although it might be nice to be able to see more clearly or in less light, it probably isn't worth the price.
