Principle in which the telescope works

Published 2012/5/21 14:49:00 - Ceramic Ball

The principle in which the telescope works is very simple. There are two lenses that make up the task of viewing the objects that are at a distance. One of the lenses picks up the light from the object viewed and makes it available at a focus point. Another lens picks up the bright light from the focus point and spreads it out to your retina so that you can view. The lens that picks up the light from the object is called the objective lens or primary mirror. The lens that picks up the light from the focal point is called the eyepiece lens.

The different types of telescopes for beginners

Published 2012/5/16 9:39:00 - Ceramic Ball

Refractor- It is most commonly used and traditionally designed telescope. The telescope has a lens or mirror in the front to gather light and capture an image. It is a little expensive but the cost depends on the aperture, so a small refractor can be good option as a telescopes for beginners.

Newtonian reflector- It can be viewed using an eyepiece.Larger apertures are available but at the expense of portability.

Catadioptric - These telescopes use a mixture of lenses and mirrors and are of two types, the Schmidt-Cassegrain and the Maksutov-Cassegrain. The important feature of these telescopes is their compact tubes, which is half reflector and half refractor. These features are not always found on telescopes for beginners, however.

Alt Azimuth and Equatorial- the mount telescope comes in two types: the Alt Azimuth and equatorial. They can be helpful for terrestrial and field view. A Dobsonian is a type of Alt Azimuth. It is made for large reflectors whereas Equatorial are designed to track objects with small adjustment.

Most often associated with astronomy—Refracting Telescope

Published 2012/5/14 9:14:00 - Ceramic Ball

The refracting telescope is the telescope most often associated with astronomy. It was the first type of telescope made and uses a set of lenses to collect and magnify the light of whatever you are looking at. Because of the cost and weight of large lenses refracting telescopes don't have the aperture that reflecting telescopes do, however they tend to have a much longer focal length. This large focal length allows them to magnify very well, making them an excellent tool for viewing bright, closer to home objects, such as the planets or comets, etc.

Refracting telescopes tend to be much easier to carry and travel with then reflecting telescopes; this makes them a nice tool to have if you have to drive to get to good observing skies. They mainly use tripod mounts and so many of them come with computerized mounts, which can be very helpful if you are just starting out.

Refracting telescopes are a wonderful type of telescope, but you must be careful not to buy the cheap kind sold at supermarkets etc. A good refracting telescope will take a little out of your wallet, but it will be well worth it. Buy a refracting telescope if you are interested in the planets or other objects in our solar system.

Benefits Of Finding Used Telescopes For Sale

Published 2012/5/3 10:45:00 - Ceramic Ball

Finding and buying used telescopes for sale has many benefits. You get a great bargain! There is nothing like being able to buy something at a fraction of its price. Used telescopes for sale make this a possibility.

Imagine buying a telescope at the fraction of its price when new. You likely will also get a few more extras then you would have, if you purchased new. If you buy a used telescope and the original owner was a big astronomy fan, then he or she likely purchased extra equipment for it, over the years.

The are negatives to buying used telescopes. For example the optics are not going to be as pristine as new, and if there is any damage to the optics, it will have major adverse effects in its power.

It is a good idea to check the optics, such as in a reflector, check the mirror. Any damages here will mean that the telescope is as good as smaller telescopes. This makes buying new a better option than buying a big telescope with damage to the optics - unless you are willing to invest in getting them repaired, and then new seems like a better idea

 Sold With An Inferior Focuser

Published 2012/5/2 11:06:00 - Ceramic Ball

First thing you see when looking at the focuser, you will find that most department store telescopes come with cheap plastic focusers. This may not seem important at first, but over time those cheap plastic parts will began to wear out, slip, and eventually stop working. Once it cracks or starts to slip, you may find replacing the focuser would be more expensive than the telescope is worth.

The second issue with most department store telescopes is the size of the focuser, most are sold with a 0.965" focuser. This size focuser only gives you a small view of the sky, which makes trying to find sky objects when looking through the telescope very difficult. Using one of the smaller lenses will make finding objects through the telescope much easier, but you will still only see a small patch of sky.

The focuser featured on most kid's department store telescopes is usually listed on the fine print of the product description either the side or back of the box. The 0.965" focuser is quickly becoming obsolete, so finding accessories will increasingly become difficult or impossible. This makes ever being able to upgrade that department store telescope with new lenses very hard.

After a little research, you will find that the best telescopes today usually come with either a 1.25" or maybe even a 2" focuser included with them. With the more common size focuser, buying lenses and accessories will be easier. You will also find with the larger size focuser will give you a wider field of view when looking through the telescope.
